one of the most sparsely populated
states of India, covers an area
of 83743 sq. Kms. This region
acquired an independent political
status in January 20, 1972,
when it was declared as Union
Territory under the name of
Arunachal Pradesh. The state
of Arunachal Pradesh Bill was
passed by the Parliament in
1986 and with effect from February
20, 1987 Arunachal Pradesh became
the 24th state of Indian Union.

Itanagar Tourism :- Itanagar
has been the capital of Arunachal
Pradesh since 20th April 1974.
Itanagar is situated at the
foothills. The township is situated
at 350 metres above mean sea
level. It comes administratively
under Papumpare district. The
Nishis or Nishings is the major
tribe in Itanagar area. However,
Itanagar can be called as mini
India, as people from all over
the country, live here in harmony.
As a capital town, Itanagar
is well connected with the rest
of the country by road and air
communications. Pawan Hans provides
helicopter service between Guwahati
and Naharlagun(Itanagar). Deluxe
buses are available from Guwahati.
How to Reach Arunachal Pradesh
By Air : The nearest airport
is Lilabari (North Lakhimpur)
in Assam, 57 kms from Naharlagun
and 67 kms from Itanagar, served
by Vayudoot. Indian Airlines
operates direct flight from
Calcutta to Tezpur ( 216 kms
from Itanagar ) on Wednesday,
Friday and Sunday.
People of Arunachal Pradesh
Arunachal has 26 major tribes
and many sub-tribes living in
3649 scattered villages. Although
a number of tribal groups constitue
the total population, the density
of population is very less.
People are Mangoloid stock but
each tribe has certain distinct
characteristics in language,
dress & costume. They have
a rich cultural heritage. The
People are simple, friendly
and hospitable. Their colourful
festivals are manifestations
of their faith and belief.
Arunachal Pradesh Dances
Dances form a vital element
in the zest and joy of living
of the tribals. They dance on
important rituals, during festivals
and also for recreation occassionally.
They vary from highly stylised
religious dance dramas of the
Buddhists to the martial steps
and colourful performances of
the Noctes and Wanchos.
Arunachal Pradesh Wildlife
Arunachal Pradesh is home to
a very rich mammalian wildlife
population as the wide variety
of altitudinal and climatic
conditions have given rise to
different forest types which
create corresponding natural
shelter , food etc. to varieties
of wildlife. It has two National
Parks and four Wildlife Sanctuaries.
It is home to many rare and
highly endangered species of
Wild life like Mishmi, Takin,
Hoolock Gibbon, Musk Deer, Bharal,
Hisbid Hare, Flying Squirrel
and more than 500 species of
birds.
