Nagin Lake The Dal Lake is an important tourist attraction of Srinagar. It is located on the eastern end of the city. According to Kalhan’s Rajtarangini, a temple dedicated to Shiva was constructed in 371 BC by Gopadatya, on the top of a hillock (1100 ft). The temple is currently called Shankaracharya temple, and Shanakra is believed to have visited the place and meditated there. Local muslim people call the place by the name of Takht-e-Suleiman, that is, the seat of Suleiman.


Hazaratbal shrine, located on the left bank of the Dal Lake in Srinagar, is one of the most revered places of the Muslims. In the shrine Moi-e-Muggadas (that is, the sacred hair) of Prophet Mohammad is preserved.
A mosque named Jama Masjid, located in the old city and spacious enough for 30,000 people, and was built in 1398 by Sultan Sikandar.


The tomb of Yuz Asaf (Roza Bal shrine), located in the Khanyar district of Srinagar, Kashmir. Yuz Asaf (or Yus Asaph, or Shahzada Nabi Hazrat Yura Asaf) is believed by Ahmadi Muslims to be the name adopted by Jesus after he survived the crucifixion and subsequently migrated to Kashmir. Before the arrival of Islam in the Kashmir, the tomb was maintained by Hindus and Buddhists who claimed descent from Yuz Asaf and revered him as a Holy Man.

52 km from Srinagar is the gorgeous destination of Gulmarg. Located at an altitude of 2730 m above sea level the hill resort of Gulmarg attracts several tourists. In summers, the meadows of Gulmarg are laden with flowers. In winters, the snow-covered slopes of Gulmarg turn into a skiing resort, which attracts the traveler seeking adventure and thrill. It is a popular trekking destination and boasts of the world's highest golf course.

Then there is another hill resort of Sonamarg, 80 km northeast of Srinagar. Sonamarg is located at an altitude of 2740 m. It is set in a valley amongst glaciers and placid lakes. The flower?laden meadows, panoramic view of the lofty snow?covered Himalayan peaks, and a number of trekking and hiking trails have made Sonamarg a popular tourist destination.

Srinagar is famous for its traditional Kashmiri handicrafts. The Handicraft items make excellent souvenirs from Srinagar. The carpets are not only known for their highly intricate decorations and patterns, which show a strong Islamic/Persian influence, they are also renowned for their durability and subtle colors.
